Outbound · DHL from NicaraguaNEW
Going the other way? DHL from Nicaragua to anywhere.
For five years our customers asked the same question: "How do I send something out of Nicaragua?" The answer used to be a half-day in Managua at a counter that closes at lunch. As of February 2026, we're an authorized DHL service point in San Juan del Sur. Drop your package off with us. We weigh it, paperwork it, hand it to DHL.

Get a DHL quote
DHL rates depend on destination, weight, and contents — we'll quote you on WhatsApp in under an hour during business hours.
Opens WhatsApp with your details pre-filled. You can edit before sending. No spam, no funnel — just a real person on the other end.
The only extras: declared-value insurance (optional, ~2% of value) and oversized-box surcharges (for boxes larger than a small surfboard). Outbound DHL is quoted per-shipment since rates vary by destination — usually back to you within an hour during business hours. Direct from China? Quoted separately based on origin city and load size.

Customs, taxes & outbound
The questions every expat asks.
Some answers are inbound-specific, some are about the new DHL outbound service. We've clearly tagged which is which. Five years of clearing thousands of boxes is in here.
Inbound · Will I get hit with a surprise customs bill?
Not with us. Customs duties are bundled into your per-pound rate, so the number we quote is the number you pay. If the declared value is wrong on your sender's invoice, we'll flag it before it leaves Miami, not after it's stuck at customs.
Inbound · How is duty calculated?
Nicaragua applies a value-added tax (15% IVA) plus duty rates that vary by category — usually 0–15% on everyday household goods. Electronics, alcohol, and luxury items run higher. Used personal effects on a one-time "menaje de casa" (household goods) import are duty-free if you have residency paperwork in motion.
We'll tell you which category your shipment falls into before you commit.
Inbound · What's the "menaje de casa" exemption?
If you're moving to Nicaragua under a residency program (pensionado, rentista, inversionista), you get a one-time duty-free import of household goods — furniture, kitchenware, clothes, books, even a vehicle in some cases. The catch: it has to clear within a specific window after your residency is approved, and the inventory list has to be filed correctly in Spanish.
Our White Glove tier handles the menaje filing as part of the move. Pair it with our residency service if you haven't started that paperwork yet.
Outbound · Which countries can I ship to via DHL?
DHL Express serves 190+ countries. The common ones from here — US, Canada, all of the EU, UK, Mexico, most of South America, Japan, Australia — are all routine. A few destinations have known issues (Iran, North Korea, Russia, parts of West Africa) where DHL won't ship at all or won't accept certain item categories. We'll tell you the second you mention the destination.
Pricing depends on the destination zone. Zone 2 (most of North America & EU) is the cheapest. Zone 7 (parts of Africa, Oceania) is the most expensive.
Outbound · What can't I send out of Nicaragua via DHL?
Standard DHL restrictions apply (no firearms, no flammables, no fresh food, etc. — see the restricted-items grid below). Nicaragua-specific rules add a few: no pre-Columbian artifacts (illegal to export), no live plants or seeds without an agricultural permit we don't file.
Cigars, coffee, rum, and artisan crafts in personal quantities are all routinely fine. We've shipped each of these hundreds of times.
Inbound · What documents do I need?
For regular shipments: an itemized invoice from the sender (Amazon receipts are fine), your passport, and your Fast Pack member number. We handle the rest. For menaje de casa: passport, residency approval letter, a notarized inventory list in Spanish, and a clean record with DGI (the tax authority).
Inbound · What happens if customs delays my shipment?
Most things clear within 48 hours of landing in Managua. Occasionally a box gets pulled for inspection — usually because of vague invoicing or a flagged HS code. When that happens, our broker is on-site at the airport or port within hours and we keep you updated on WhatsApp until it's resolved. We don't charge storage fees during a customs hold.
Both directions · Are my packages insured?
Inbound: standard coverage is $100 per box at no charge. Higher declared values can add full-replacement insurance for about 2% of declared value. We use a Nicaraguan-licensed insurer (the same one we recommend for expat health and home cover), so claims actually get paid here.
Outbound via DHL: their standard liability covers up to $100 per shipment. For valuable items (electronics, art, cigars over $500) we strongly recommend adding DHL's Shipment Value Protection at checkout — typically 1–2% of declared value.
Inbound · Can I ship a car or motorcycle?
Yes — under the menaje de casa exemption, one vehicle per residency holder is duty-free if it's under 10 years old. Without that exemption, vehicle import duties in Nicaragua are steep (40%+ depending on engine size). We've handled this dozens of times. Message us before you buy a car in the US thinking you'll ship it later — sometimes buying locally is cheaper than the duty.
What we can't ship
Restricted items.
Some things can't go in any box, in either direction. The list below applies to both inbound (Fast Pack) and outbound (DHL) shipments — though DHL has a longer list for specific destination countries we'll walk through with you.
Firearms & ammunition
No exceptions. Pepper spray and self-defense items also prohibited.
Flammables & aerosols
Lighter fluid, propane, hair spray cans, paint, solvents — TSA rules apply.
Prescription drugs
Personal supplies with a Rx may be allowed — message us before shipping.
Fresh food & meat
Sealed dry goods are fine. Anything that needs refrigeration is not.
Plants & seeds
Live plants and most seeds require an agricultural import permit we don't file.
Animals
Pet relocation is a separate service — we'll connect you with our partner vet.
Loose lithium batteries
Allowed inside devices. Not allowed shipped on their own by air.
Alcohol & tobacco
Allowed in limited quantities by sea only, with a separate duty calculation.

From actual customers
Stuff people sent us after their stuff arrived.
Three customers, three different shipments. One inbound from the US, one full-container move, one outbound to Europe via DHL. China-direct is new — your story could go here.
"I tried two other freight forwarders before this. One lost a box of my kids' school supplies; the other quoted me one price and billed me triple at customs. Fast Pack quoted $186 and it cost $186. That was the whole story."
"We shipped a 20-foot container to Nicaragua with the White Glove service. They handled the menaje de casa filing, met the container at the port in Corinto, and had everything ready for us at their San Juan del Sur point within four weeks. Not one broken plate."
"My daughter's wedding was in Madrid and I wanted to send her my grandmother's silver service from here. Used to be a four-hour drive to Managua and a prayer. Now I drop it off five minutes from my house and she had it in four days, fully insured. This is the service Nicaragua needed for twenty years."
Send something in. Send something out. Either way, we're on it.
Tell us where it's going (or coming from) and what's in the box. We'll quote it on WhatsApp, usually within an hour. No pitch call, no funnel, no upsell.
