Pickleball in Nicaragua — where to play, what's on, and how to bring your group

The courts are new.
The volcano views aren't.

Nicaragua's pickleball scene is four years old and growing every season — ten-plus places to play, from the original roofed court in San Juan del Sur to free public courts in Rivas and the padel clubs of Managua. This page keeps the full list, and every event we can confirm.

We live here, we know the clubs, and we build pickleball trips for groups: courts every morning, the beach every afternoon, and someone to sort the rest.

How it works

  1. We watch you play. Live evaluation: the coach watches your group play real points to see where you lose them, what movement holds you back, and where the quickest gains are.
  2. Your session is built for you. Every drill and concept is picked for the players on your court — nothing generic.
  3. You put it into play. Coached live reps: decision-making, competitive play and in-game adjustments you can use the next time you step on court.

Group trips

Bring your club to Nicaragua

A pickleball week here is courts in the cool of the morning, the Pacific in the afternoon, and a different crowd to play every day. We build it around your group's level and dates — and around a tournament, if one is on.

1

Tell us about the group

How many, what level (DUPR if you have it), which dates, and whether you want a competitive week or a vacation with a paddle in it.

2

We line up the courts

Reserved court time across the San Juan del Sur clubs, a session with local players in Rivas, a resort court where we can arrange it, and a coaching clinic if you want one.

3

We handle the rest

Airport pickup, a beach house that fits the group, transport between courts, and the off-court days — a boat day, a volcano, Granada. A written plan with real prices before you commit.

4

You play

We're on WhatsApp the whole trip. Rain, a closed court, a change of plan — we sort it, same day.

Court tour

Want to see Nicaragua's courts for yourself?

A day (or three) on the courts

Contact us if you're interested in a tour of Nicaragua's pickleball courts.

Thinking about moving here, scouting for your club, or just want to play somewhere new every day? We'll drive you between the courts around San Juan del Sur and down the coast, introduce you to the people who run them, and get you into the local games.

It pairs well with a look at where people live — most of the courts are in the same neighborhoods our clients rent in. San Juan del Sur area guide →

Before you pack

Playing pickleball in the tropics

Play early, play late

Midday on the Pacific coast runs 30–34 °C most of the year. Locals play from about 6am and again after 4pm, and the lit courts get busy after sunset. Drink before you're thirsty; electrolytes help.

Know the seasons

Dry season is roughly November to April. October is the wettest month. Rainy-season showers are mostly afternoons — morning sessions rarely get washed out, and the roofed court plays through.

Bring your gear

No pickleball shop here yet. Courts lend paddles, but bring your own and a sleeve of outdoor balls. Moving down? We ship from Miami every week.

Bring your rating

Organized play here reports to DUPR, and the stronger local players sit around 4.0–4.5. Share your rating and we'll match you to the right games.

A little Spanish goes far

The expat clubs run in English; Rivas and Managua run in Spanish. "¿Juegan dobles?" gets you on court. Scores are called the same way everywhere.

Leave a paddle behind

Local programs are teaching Nicaraguan kids and new players with donated gear. A paddle and a few balls left at the end of your trip go a long way — we'll get them to the right hands.

New to the game?

Pickleball in two minutes

Invented on Bainbridge Island, Washington, in 1965 and now the fastest-growing sport in the U.S. — about 24 million Americans played in 2025, nearly triple the 2022 figure (SFIA). It's easy to learn in an afternoon and hard to put down.

Common questions

Pickleball in Nicaragua — what people ask

Is there pickleball in Nicaragua?

Yes — and it is growing fast. The first purpose-built court opened in San Juan del Sur in 2022; today there are ten-plus places to play across San Juan del Sur, Tola, Rivas and Managua, and local organizers count a couple of hundred regular players, up from a few dozen in 2021. Most play is on the southern Pacific coast.

Where can I play pickleball in San Juan del Sur?

Four pay-to-play venues within about 20 minutes of town: Las Escadas (the biggest, with leagues and clinics), Pickleball San Juan del Sur in La Talanguera (the original, roofed court), Las Alas in Escamequita to the south, and Maderas Pickleball near Playa Maderas to the north. Expect about $12 an hour per court, paddles usually included.

Can I play at Rancho Santana or the other Tola resorts if I am not staying there?

The Tola courts — Rancho Santana, Hacienda Iguana and Guacalito — are for guests and owners. If you are staying elsewhere, message us: for groups we can often arrange play through the resorts or an owner, and if not we put you on the public and pay-to-play courts down the coast.

When is the best time of year to play pickleball in Nicaragua?

November through April is dry season on the Pacific coast. December to March is the sweet spot; March and April are the hottest. In rainy season (May to October) mornings are usually clear and the showers come in the afternoon, which is when the roofed court in San Juan del Sur earns its keep. Year-round, play early or after 4pm.

Are there pickleball tournaments in Nicaragua?

Yes, mostly club-run: Nica Moneyball in Tola (44 players in 2026, DUPR-reported), King of the Jungle at Las Alas, and inter-club days like Rumble in the Jungle at Rancho Santana. Nicaragua has also sent a team to the Pickleball World Cup. We keep the calendar on this page current — check the Events section.

Is there a national pickleball federation in Nicaragua?

Not that we can find as of October 2026. Nicaragua is not yet listed with the international federations, and local organizers expect a padel federation to come first. If that changes, it goes on this page.

Should I bring my own paddle?

Yes, if you have one you like. There is no dedicated pickleball shop in the country and the venues lend paddles and balls, but loaners are basic. Bring outdoor balls too if you are picky — they are hard to find locally.

Can you organize a pickleball trip for our club or group?

That is exactly what we do. Tell us your group size, level and dates. We put together a week that moves between courts — the San Juan del Sur clubs, the Rivas public courts, a resort court where we can arrange it — with local players to rally with, a coaching session, a beach house, transport, and a tournament on the calendar if one lines up. One WhatsApp thread for the whole trip.

Tell us when your group is coming.

Group size, level, dates — that's enough to start. We'll come back within 24 hours with courts, lodging, a rough plan and real prices.
