Nicaragua wedding venues and packages: what they cost and where to marry

Which venues publish prices (almost none do), what an all-inclusive package really covers, how a legal marriage differs from a symbolic ceremony, when it rains, and what your guests need to check before they book.

Couples searching for Nicaragua wedding packages usually want one thing: a number. The honest answer is that almost nobody here publishes one. Of every venue we reviewed, a single one lists real package prices. The rest say “contact us.”

This guide is the planning map we wish couples had. It shows which venues publish prices and which do not, how to build a budget from the parts, how a legal marriage differs from a symbolic ceremony, when it rains, and what your guests should check before they book flights. Everything public is cited. Where we do not have a verified figure, we say so rather than guess.

The short answer
  • One venue publishes prices. Magnific Rock lists $6,499 to $9,999 for about 30 guests, excluding photo, hair and makeup, legal fees and guest transport.1
  • Everyone else quotes on request. Ask for a written, itemized quote from each.
  • The dry season is roughly late November through April. September and October are the wettest months.16,17
  • A legal marriage uses a lawyer-notary and an apostille for foreign documents. Confirm the details with a Nicaraguan attorney before you book.11,13
  • Same-sex marriage is not legal in Nicaragua.11,14
  • Guest entry rules changed several times in 2026. Check before booking flights.23,24

We plan weddings here

We’re based in San Juan del Sur and we plan weddings on this coast: venue, legal paperwork, officiant, photo and video, food and drink, and your guests’ transport. Tell us your date and guest count and we’ll come back with venues that fit and real quotes.

Packages vs. building your own

“All-inclusive” means different things at different places. Read it as a list of inclusions, not a promise.

A published package bundles a ceremony, a reception and some services at a fixed price. Magnific Rock is the clearest example. It lists three tiers for about 30 guests, Essence at $6,499, Destiny at $7,999 and Infinity at $9,999, and states what each leaves out: photography and video, hair and makeup, legal and officiant fees, and guest transport.1 That list of exclusions is the useful part. It shows what you still need to budget for. One caution: the same page gives two different guest capacities (80 and 130), so confirm the number for your date in writing.1

A resort package works differently. Barceló Montelimar is the only true all-inclusive resort wedding product we confirmed. Its wedding page lists a capacity of 50 to 100, a 50% deposit, and advice to book 6 to 12 months ahead. It excludes planners, catering beyond snacks, photo and video, and childcare.7 No pricing is shown on that page, so ask the resort what each line covers.

Building your own means choosing a venue, then hiring caterer, florist, photographer, music and transport separately. Many of the best settings are bespoke by design. Mukul’s events page and Morgan’s Rock’s wedding page present custom events with no public price list.2,5

A package suits you if

  • You want one contact and one invoice
  • Your guest count fits the stated capacity
  • You are fine with the venue’s menu and vendors

Build your own if

  • You want a specific place, such as a colonial courtyard
  • You have more or fewer guests than a package assumes
  • You want local food and your own photographer

San Juan del Sur

The bay itself is the draw: a crescent of sand, sailboats and the Cristo statue on the headland. San Juan del Sur is our home base, and its ceremonies are mostly beach arches and small rooftop dinners. Two venues near town have dedicated wedding offers. TreeCasa Resort, about 10 minutes from San Juan del Sur, is a jungle eco-resort of 37 treehouse rooms on roughly 10 acres of forest, with two pools, a garden-to-table restaurant and event space.26 Ceremonies there happen on a treehouse deck or in an outdoor amphitheater, and its planners tailor packages from small elopements to big celebrations, with in-house catering including vegan menus.25,27 It suits couples who want guests sleeping on site in something memorable. Morgan’s Rock is the other, with a dedicated wedding page and a cap of about 50 guests.2 Neither publishes prices, so we get written quotes for you.

Tola and Popoyo

The Tola coast is where the larger and more polished properties sit. Rancho Santana lists nine venue spaces from 20 to 300 guests and 20-plus private residences that sleep 6 to 80 each. The figures come from a third-party planner’s deck rather than the resort’s own site, and no venue fee is published.3 Mukul’s main venue, Casona Don Carlos, holds 50 seated.5,6 Magnific Rock is the one place with published packages.1 If you are weighing the coast against town, see Tola or San Juan del Sur.

Montelimar and Gran Pacifica

Barceló Montelimar is the resort option described above.7 Gran Pacifica markets weddings but publishes neither pricing nor capacity.8

Granada and Laguna de Apoyo

Granada is the easiest cluster to reach, about 43 km and 48 minutes from the Managua airport.22 La Gran Francia lists up to 100 guests and 21 rooms, with no price.9 San Simian Lodge on Laguna de Apoyo has hosted at least one documented wedding, but we found no capacity or price.10 Other Granada properties appear only in directories, so we do not name them as bookable.

Ometepe, León and Masaya

We found no wedding packages, pricing or venue infrastructure for Ometepe, León or Masaya. Ometepe works today as a honeymoon add-on or day trip, not as a wedding destination. If the volcano island is your dream, we can look into it with you, but expect a custom build.

Budgets by guest count: how the total is built

We will not print a single “average Nicaragua wedding” number. No independent benchmark exists, and the nearest figures we found are for Costa Rica, so they would mislead. What we can give you is the structure, using only sourced prices, and a way to read the capacities against the guest count you have in mind.

Planner or DIY: what a local planner handles

Few Nicaraguan wedding planners publish a website or rates. Planning mostly comes bundled with resort packages or arranged through referrals. Rancho Santana, for example, refers couples to six local partners who provide ground logistics for an outside lead planner, rather than full-service firms, and none had a verifiable website or published rate.4 Hotel-based coordinators exist too, but their fees are not public.

That gap is where a local team earns its keep. On a destination wedding, someone on the ground typically handles:

  • vendor introductions and written quotes you can compare
  • guest ground transport and airport pickups (see our transport service)
  • the legal paperwork and the lawyer-notary introduction
  • a rain plan for the day
  • someone to answer questions in Spanish when a vendor is late

That’s what we do. We plan weddings from San Juan del Sur with a small team of vendors we use every time: a lawyer for legal weddings, a bilingual officiant, a photo and video pair, a florist, a caterer and music. You get one WhatsApp thread and the same people from the first message to the last dance. See what’s included on our weddings page.

You can go it alone. It works best with a small group, a flexible date and a venue that has its own coordinator. For more guests, a rain plan or a legal ceremony, a local planner pays for itself in avoided mistakes.

You have two paths. A symbolic ceremony is a celebration at your venue with no legal effect. It is the simplest route, and many couples sign their legal marriage at home before or after. Barceló’s page describes this symbolic-plus-legal-at-home option.7 A legal civil marriage takes place in Nicaragua and follows the Family Code (Ley 870, in force since April 8, 2015).11

1

Check the basics

The minimum age is 18 for both parties, or 16 to 18 with legal-representative authorization (Art. 54).11 Some guides still repeat an older 21/18 split. We found the 18/18 text in the statute, but confirm with your attorney.

2

Choose the officiant

The Code names a family-court or local judge, or a notary public with 10 or more years of practice (Art. 62).11 For foreign couples, the notary route is usually the practical one because it avoids a court appearance.

3

Gather the documents

Expect an application, birth certificates, passport or cédula, proof you are single or that a prior marriage ended, and two witnesses who attest you are free to marry (Art. 64).11 Foreign civil documents need an apostille. Nicaragua joined the Apostille Convention on September 7, 2012, with effect from May 14, 2013,12 and since January 11, 2024 authorities require an apostille rather than consular legalization.13

4

Register the marriage

The Code sets 30 business days to register a marriage performed in Nicaragua (Art. 71).11 We found no statutory waiting period or minimum residency for foreigners (Art. 67), but registrar practice on translations and apostilles is not spelled out in the code, so ask.

Canada states that marriages validly performed abroad are usually valid in Canada with no separate registration.13 We did not find a current Nicaragua-specific US State Department page on how a Nicaraguan certificate is used for a name change or spousal petition, so check with your own government before relying on it. Our legal and residency team can introduce you to a lawyer-notary.

Same-sex couples: the legal picture

Nicaragua does not legally recognize same-sex marriage. The Constitution (Art. 72) and the Family Code (Art. 53) define marriage as between a man and a woman, and Art. 83 applies the same rule to de facto unions.11 A 2018 Inter-American Court advisory opinion urged recognition of same-sex unions, and Nicaragua has not implemented it.15 A tracker lists the status as “banned,” last edited April 25, 2025, with no change recorded.14

What does that leave? A symbolic ceremony is possible only if your venue and vendors agree, so ask each one directly and in writing before you pay a deposit. It carries no legal effect in Nicaragua. For legal recognition, couples generally have to marry in a country that allows it. We found very little documentation of same-sex ceremonies held inside Nicaragua, so we will not claim an established pattern. If this applies to you, message us and we will tell you honestly what we know.

When to marry: dry season vs. green season

The dry season runs roughly late November through April. Both Rivas and Granada record near-zero rainfall then, and September and October are the wettest months: Rivas averages 10.8 rain days (6.5 in) in September and 10.3 days (6.1 in) in October, against 0.1 days in January.16

If you want green-season prices, May and November are the credible shoulder months. Whatever the month, plan a covered backup for any outdoor ceremony between May and November. We found no Nicaragua-specific guidance on time-of-day rain, so ask your venue what it does when a storm rolls in.

On hurricanes: the Pacific coast is rarely hit. Hurricane Otto crossed from the Caribbean into the Pacific near the Costa Rica border on November 24, 2016, the first Atlantic storm on record to do so since a 2000 naming-policy change.18 Treat it as a low-probability tail risk, not a reason to avoid late November.

Getting guests here and where they sleep

Most guests fly into Managua (MGA). As of early 2025, nine airlines connected it to 12 destinations, and Avianca added Fort Lauderdale and San José routes from May 2025.19 Check current carriers and fares before you tell guests which flights to book. The road from Managua to San Juan del Sur is about 129 km, with shared transfers starting around $25 a person.21 Liberia, Costa Rica (LIR) is a well-established alternate gateway for San Juan del Sur, about 120 km and 2.5 hours away including a border crossing.20

The Managua figure is a starting price for a transfer of about 129 km and 2 hours 20 to 30 minutes. From Liberia, border fees are $9 leaving Costa Rica and $14 entering Nicaragua. Prices are from 2024 and 2026 listings and will vary.

Where do guests sleep? Lodging exists in all three clusters: San Juan del Sur town, the Tola coast (Rancho Santana’s residences sleep 6 to 80 each3) and Granada. We could not confirm any property’s room count or group rate from public sources, so request a group block directly and get the terms in writing. We can also arrange group pickups through our transport service.

Frequently asked questions

How much does a wedding in Nicaragua actually cost?

There is no honest single number. Only one venue we found publishes prices: Magnific Rock lists three packages for about 30 guests at $6,499, $7,999 and $9,999, and those exclude photography and video, hair and makeup, legal and officiant fees and guest transport.1 Every other venue we looked at quotes on request, so total cost depends on guest count, venue and what you add.

Which Nicaragua wedding venues publish real pricing, and which require a quote?

Magnific Rock in Popoyo publishes tiered package prices.1 TreeCasa, Rancho Santana, Mukul, Morgan’s Rock, Barceló Montelimar, Gran Pacifica and the Granada properties we reviewed require a direct inquiry.25,2,3,5,7,8,9 Treat any figure you see on a third-party site as a starting point to confirm in writing.

What do we legally need to get married in Nicaragua as foreigners?

Nicaragua’s Family Code requires an application, birth certificates, passports, proof you are single or that a prior marriage ended, and two witnesses.11 Since January 11, 2024, foreign documents need an apostille rather than consular legalization.13 Confirm the exact steps and timing with a Nicaraguan lawyer-notary before you book, because registrar practice for foreigners is not spelled out in the code.

Is same-sex marriage legal in Nicaragua?

No. The Constitution and the Family Code both define marriage as between a man and a woman, and trackers list no change through 2025.11,14,15 A symbolic ceremony is a personal and logistical choice, but it has no legal effect. We are not aware of well-documented cases of couples doing this inside the country, so ask any venue directly.

When is the best (driest) time of year for an outdoor wedding in Nicaragua?

Roughly late November through April. January in Rivas averages 0.1 rain days, against about 10 in September and October.16 Granada gets 1 mm in February and over 290 mm in June and October.17 May and November are shoulder months with less rain risk than June through October.

Do our wedding guests need a visa to enter Nicaragua in 2026?

We cannot give a flat answer, and neither can any source we found. Nicaragua restructured its visa-exemption categories several times in 2026, and we found no source confirming the current category for US, Canadian, UK or EU travelers.23,24 Each guest should check with a Nicaraguan consulate or the official e-Visa portal shortly before booking flights, and again close to travel.
